This 20th Annual Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Service and Commemoration honors the deep friendship and life work of Dr. King and Rabbi Heschel. Though tonight we do not pray with our feet (words of Abraham J. Heschel), we can pray with our hearts and experience the brotherly love of these American prophets of the human spirit: two men who spoke peacefully — but in a loud voice — at a time when most others were silent. Their prayer was that freedom would ring from every mountain; that each person would see God’s image in all people. The unity they embodied is the symbol of the more than forty-year relationship between the Park Avenue Christian Church and Da’at Elohim: Temple of Universal Judaism.
