Liesel Appel is the daughter of Hitler's Minister of Education in Poland, and a convert to Judaism.

She discussed her book The Neighbor's Son in which she detailed her unrelenting search for Edgar August Mayer, son of Willy and Faiga Dobra Meyer of Bottrop, Germany (where she was born). Edgar was thrown, as a baby, from a balcony in 1938 during Kristallnacht.

Abraham Joshua Heschel-Martin Luther King, Jr Interfaith Service January 2008
Co-hosted by the Park Avenue Christian Church. The annual Heschel-King Award for Interfaith Activism was presented to Rabbi David Saperstein. Reggie Harris and Rabbi Jonathan Kligler sang freedom songs from both African-American and Jewish traditions.
Cellist Laurie Singer and organist Andrew Adams performed a hymn to Dr. King.
